Plymouth Respect Festival 2018
The Respect Festival returned to Plymouth after a 2-year break. The Theme of the Festival was ‘Respect Heroes’ The selected heroes had come from diverse backgrounds and have been an inspiration to young people or the local community. Brook Green selected Toby Gorniak, co-founder of Street Factory.
Students from Brook Green took part in the prop making workshop on June 15th 2018. They decorated umbrellas using symbols and colours connected with Street Factory. In addition to this they embellished masks. The workshop was led by artist Karen Evans and supported by members of Plymouth Race Equality Council.
Prior to the parade, the students participated in a Bhangra dance workshop, which was connected to the festival. On the day of the parade, July 14th, 2018, a Bhangra band led the parade followed by a stream of umbrellas bopping up and down in rhythm to the Bhangra beat.
