The Respect Festival Workshop

On Friday 13th June 2014, a selection of students from years 9 and 10 participated in the Respect Festival workshop.  This involved working with artist Karen Evens, Dave Evans from the Fire service, PC Graeme Kirkup and 6 volunteers from Plymouth University.

Plymouth Respect Festival is designed to promote respect and celebrate diversity across all areas of the community. The festival is organised by the Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council and will take place on the 4th and 5th of October 2014.

This year the theme of the festival is ‘Sailing for Respect’. We responded to this by working together on a huge, mystical sea creature, which will be carried by students in Respect Festival Parade. Masks and costumes were also made for students to be worn in the parade. The work produced is spectacular and will really stand out in the procession.

Finally the day concluded with a food tasting session giving students an opportunity to sample various foods from different countries.
