Plymouth Illuminate Parade

On Thursday 20th November, Students from Brook Green Centre for Learning took part in the Plymouth Illuminate Parade, which was to mark the launch of, and countdown to, 2020; the 400th Anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower to the United States of America.

The Huge illuminated sea spirit, which was made by 10JSp and 11AA, with support from the Respect Festival team and students from Plymouth University, back in June 2014, was showcased throughout the entire event.

The following students, their families and teachers, took part in the parade.

Saskia, Sean, Luke, Paul, Luke, Craig, Casey, Jessica, Flynn, the art teacher, the citizenship teacher and two teaching & learning assistants.

The parade ended at Smeaton’s tower, were a single candle was lit, followed by over 1,000 lights being held up.  This was to illustrate the quote by Governor William Bradford: “As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled has shown unto many.”  The candles also formed the number 400, to mark the anniversary.
