Brook Green has the opportunity to take part in a Lantern Parade that celebrates the local community and also stresses the links the city has to the oceans and the sea. This week saw the Year 7 students begin to make and assemble lanterns in preparation for the parade. The school is lucky to be working with Pippa St John from the Whitleigh Big Local, a community artist, and Karen Evans from the Consciousness Sisters.
The art department is also taking part in the lantern parade working with students from Year 9 who are involved in a project called ‘The Gathering’, which is a sea-based event, which celebrates the working-class history of Plymouth’s coastal workers. The work produced will be made into an exhibition to travel around the seaboard.
The culmination of the project will be the parade itself which will take place either on the 25th of November, or if the weather is bad the 2nd of December. Starting a 5.15 outside of the school and ending at Whitleigh Green.
