Respect Festival 2019

Updated: Oct 1, 2019

On Thursday 12th of September a selection of students, from different year groups, took part in the Respect Festival workshop. The first part of the workshop was dance based. Fuse Diverse Dance company worked with our students to learn the dance moves for the parade. The approach was fun, creative and energetic and our students enjoyed taking part.

From 10.30am until 1.00pm, students took part in the art workshop, where they made they made hats to wear in the parade. Artist, Karen Evans led the workshop and was assisted by members of the Racial Equality Council. They could choose their style of hat. Most student opted for a top hat or a fascinator. Each student worked independently on their hat and outcomes were stunning! Karen was very impressed with the results.

The hats were covered with brightly coloured tissue paper and a range of art materials.

On the morning of Saturday 14th September, we all meet up at the Guild Hall. It was a very enriching experience and enjoyed by all.

Wearing the hats, students paraded up to the Hoe in the sunshine, where they took part in a mass dance.
