As part of the STEAM Day whose theme was "fairness" Book Green joined forces with the Woodland Trust and Plymouth City Council to plant more trees in Whitleigh Park, because what could be more fairer than that?
Years Seven, Nine, and Ten rolled up their sleeves and donned their wellies and managed to plant over 30 trees which was a great effort. They planted a variety of species from Beech, Birch, Holly, and Oak.
They were also given an opportunity to work in woodland management and a group were tasked with cutting down Ash saplings that were vulnerable to Ash Dieback and replacing them with resistant tree varieties. the group learnt to handle a range of tools safely from Bow Saw, Loppers, to Secateurs.
If that was not enough another group managed to collect three bags of rubbish on a local litter pick.
The weather was gorgeous, and the event was well organised. I would like to thank the Woodland Trust for giving the students such a fantastic opportunity to make a difference to the local community.
