This academic year we commenced a life and employability skills programme in school. The programme is aimed at Year 10 and Year 11 students and aims to develop life and employability skills alongside the SkillsBuilder programme we use in school.

Over the course of the year, our Year 11 students have worked on understanding emotions in themselves and other people, building self-confidence and resilience, understanding money and budgeting, discovering the world of work with a focus on work place expectations, writing a CV and preparing for an interview. This was further supported through work experience placements and visits. They have also completed budgeting and teamwork tasks like making lunch for the whole class for less than £10.00.

We also worked towards an enterprise project which involved making something from nothing!! Students arranged a Christmas disco for the whole school and were involved in organising posters, ticket sales and playlists as well as staffing the entrance and snack stalls to develop customer service and money skills. Alongside this, they crafted willow hearts from willow grown on the school site and sold these at the Christmas fair The students presented their project to the school governing body and was very well received.

Our afternoons have involved music therapy and teambuilding with Sound Factory Studios.

The linked video shows you just a snippet of all the activities our students have worked on this year.

Today we celebrated their achievements with a presentation and party in class.

We are proud of your accomplishments this year and wish you all the very best for the future!
