Message from Plymouth Short Breaks Team
We would like to invite children and families from your school to take part in a free inclusive Short Break activity session at Plymouth Life Centre on Sunday 18 October.
As part of Plymouth City Council’s universal Short Breaks offer for children and young people with SEND, we work with Plymouth Active to provide a three-hour activity session each quarter, giving children the opportunity to try something new, have fun and spend time in a safe, welcoming and supervised environment.
Each session offers a variety of inclusive activities – previous sessions have included climbing, arts and crafts, sensory play and bouncy castles. The activities will vary from session to session, but the focus is always on making the experience enjoyable, engaging and accessible for the children attending.
Importantly, the sessions also give parents and carers the opportunity to have some valuable time for themselves or with other family members, once they and their child are comfortable with the environment and staff.
Sunday 18 October – Plymouth Life Centre
6–10 years: 9.00am–12.00pm
11–14 years: 12.30pm–3.30pm
There is some flexibility around the age ranges where appropriate.
We try to ensure that schools with SEND units across Plymouth have the opportunity to access these sessions. We have already approached Mayflower SEND Unit regarding places in the younger group, but we currently have 10 places available in the older age group that we would particularly like to offer to children and families attending your school.
We want the sessions to be as inclusive as possible. Parents/carers will therefore need to complete a short expression of interest, which allows us to understand each child’s needs in advance and work with Plymouth Life Centre to make sure the appropriate arrangements are in place for them to have a safe, enjoyable and positive experience.
