This year, The Respect Festival was delivered online, via Zoom. 9HE, worked with artist Karen Evans to create placards. The theme was hidden histories and celebrating the lives of people that had made huge contributions to Plymouth and the wider community.

The day started with a talk from Wonder Zoo – Plymouth’s hidden histories and storytelling.

The students learnt about Ratna Latchman (1957 – 2017) She was a campaigner, human rights champion, and activist. She set up an organisation called The Rural Racism Project Southwest, an organisation that challenges rural racism.

Students wrote words or phrases on their placards advocating some of the things that Ratna stood up for. The Placards were filmed as they formed a Mexican wave. Following this, the students worked with the Barbican Theatre Dance Company to perform a dance routine.

The film was edited and merged with the other schools that took part.
