Students from Brook Green took part in a session with Plymouth City Patriots to promote basketball across the community.
Brook Green were very privileged to take part and host it within our school community the event was organized by the British Basket Ball league.
As you can see in the video our students had an amazing afternoon this event was additional to our ongoing weekly sessions held at Brook Green.
Plymouth City Patriots have inspired our school community with their empathy and getting to know our students as individuals.
The sessions incorporate many aspects of individual wellbeing which include the following:
Commitment – teamwork – positive change – rules – boundaries – confidence – attendance – listening – Co-ordination – equal opportunities – fun – literacy skill - numeracy skills – healthy eating etc.
This helps our students with their social skills and facial recognitions of emotions which helps with their friendship building.
There are also opportunities to train with the community coaches and meet the players at pre- match clinics throughout the academic year where the students have the experience to watch a league game and meet all the players with a question and answer session directed at the players and obtain player autographs.
This has inspired some of our students to access sessions in the community and to purchase family season tickets.
The team has also delivered Black Life matters assemblies to our school community which was very successful and interactive.
Some quotes from BGCFL students so far:
